Library Cards
For Residents
All Elk Grove Village residents within incorporated Elk Grove Village are eligible for a library card at no charge. Property or business owners in incorporated Elk Grove Village may also obtain a free library card.
To get a library card, stop by the Circulation Services Desk in the Lobby or call (847) 725-2176 for more information.
Proof of Identification and Residency
The prospective patron will be asked for 1) proof of identification with a photo ID and 2) documentation showing proof of eligible residency. Elk Grove Village residency is demonstrated by an Elk Grove Village address.

Unincorporated Residents
Live in unincorporated Elk Grove Township? You may purchase a family card based on your property tax bill or lease/renter's agreement. Please contact Circulation Services at (847) 725-2176 for more information.
Unincorporated Resident Fee Waived For:
- Children 18 and younger who reside in unincorporated Elk Grove Township. The card is limited to use by the child.
- Children must be present with their parent/guardian to open a library card.
- A parent/guardian must provide a valid Illinois State Photo ID, or utility bill to sign up for a Library card.
- Veterans who live in unincorporated Elk Grove Township with a service-connected disability of at least 70% who are exempt from paying property taxes on their primary residence. Documentation of at least 70% disability from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs must be presented.
- The unmarried surviving spouse of a veteran who qualified for this exemption prior to death. Documentation that indicates the residence is exempt from paying property taxes must be presented.
- The unmarried surviving spouse of a service member killed in the line of duty. Documentation that indicates the residence is exempt from paying property taxes must be presented.
- Veterans with a service-related disability of at least 70% who reside in rental properties. The veteran shall present documentation of disability of at least 70% from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs when applying for their non-resident card. The surviving spouse of a deceased disabled veteran who previously had the fee waived would not be eligible to have the non-resident fee waived after the death of the veteran.

Elk Grove Village Residents
Elk Grove Village Public Library cardholders can use their library card at almost any library in the state of Illinois. There may be a short registration process the first time you visit a new library, however, and proper ID may be required.
Out-of-Town Library Cardholders
Have a library card from another town or city? Patrons of most Illinois libraries can check out materials, use reference services, and take certain classes at the Elk Grove Village Public Library with a valid library card from their home library. All reciprocal borrowers are treated the same.
