Outdoor Space Master Plan
In 2023, the Elk Grove Village Public Library set out to re-imagine its outdoor spaces in order to create more room for learning, reading, relaxing, and connecting with the community. With ideas and input from library staff, the Board of Trustees, a local contractor, and hundreds of community members, we developed a long-term Outdoor Space Master Plan. The plan includes 11 phases of improvements that will be completed over time.
This page is designed to provide as much information as possible for the community during this period. Check back here for future updates and what to expect during each phase of the outdoor renovation and improvement project.
Project Timeline
The following is a list of the project's significant milestones to date:
| July 2023 | SMC Construction Services hired to assist the Library in exploring the concept and costs associated with adding an outdoor classroom with storage as well as associated landscaping and outside space enhancements. |
| September 2023 | Interviewed top two prospective architectural landscape firms. |
| November 2023 | Hitchcock Design Group (HDG) hired to develop a master plan for a series of outdoor improvements throughout the library site. |
| April 2024 | Community Survey. 783 responses received. |
| October 2024 | Presentation of Preliminary Outdoor Master Plan. |
| January 2025 | Presentation of Final Outdoor Master Plan. |
| February 2025 | Outdoor Master Plan approved. |
| August 2025 | Phases 1, 5 and 7 chosen for initial implementation of Outdoor Master Plan. |
